On Tuesday, the 10th of January 2017, Mrs. Jodi McKay, Member of Parliament from Strathfield and Shadow Minister for Road Transport, Maritime and Freight, and her husband Mr.Stephen Fenn (Department of School Education) of Government of Australia visited Single Teacher Schools’ Teachers Training Centre at Ulundai village in Tiruvallur district. On the said occasion, a small meeting was organised at the Training Center.
Before the commencement of the meeting, Sri. S.Vedantamji, Founder of Swami Vivekananda Rural Development Society under which Single Teacher Schools are functioning, and, Mrs. JodiMcKay, Shadow Minister from Australian government garlanded the Swami Vivekananda Statue kept at the training centre. Honourary Secretary of STS, Mr. R.P.Krishnammachari welcomed the gathering. In his welcome address, he highlighted the Aims and Objectives and the functioning methodology of the 615 STS cemters in the remote rural areas, the role of teachers and the how value based education is being imparted to the 22,450 students.
Smt. Dr. Girija Seshadri, Advisory Bard Member of STS explained the significance of her meeting Mrs. Jodi McKay at Australia along with Sri. S.Vedantamji during their recent visit. She also described the keen interest shown by the Australian MP in visiting STS Centers. In her special address, Mrs. Jodi Mckay, described her child hood memories and talked about the importance of education. She also explained her role as Member of Parliament. She appreciated the service being rendered by Single Teacher Schools. Her speech was translated by Dr.Girija Seshadri. In the interactive session that followed her address, STS Advisors & 75 Teachers from different villages actively participated. Then Mrs.Jodi Mckay and her husband Mr.Stephen Fenn planted three tree saplings within the premises of the training center.
Later they visited STS Centres at Melmaduramangalam and Sivan koodal villages in Sriperumpudur Thaluk to the grand welcome of students, who showered them with flowers and garlanded them. They interacted with teachers Mrs. Bhavani, Selvi. Roopaselvi and the students at both the STS centres. While addressing them, the visitors emphasized the importance of basic education and appreciated the role of teachers in grooming the students and the service rendered by STS in developing the villages. After having a look at the toilets cum bathrooms constructed by STS duly supported by IDRF under Prime Minister’s ‘Swachh Bharath Abhiyan’ Scheme, they appreciated the involvement of STS in improving the hygiene of the villages.
Sri. S.Vedantamji, Mr. R.P.Krishnammachari, Smt. Dr. Girija Seshadri, Mr. M.S.Janardan and Mr Barani accompanied the visitors to the villages.
