Mr.K.N.Krishnamurthy, President of Single Teacher Schools, who gave the presidential address, expressed confidence that opportunities are there for the organization to improve the number of STS centers from the present 615 to 700 by the end of March 2017.
While delivering his special address, Sri.S.Vedantamji, Founder of Swami Vivekananda Rural Development Society, specifically mentioned about his 50 years of friendship with Shri.L.Ganesan and remembered how both of them served together for the cause of nationalism. He also explained in detail the services being rendered by Swami Vivekananda Rural Development Society.
Senior Journalist and Historian, Shri R.S.Narayanaswami, who spoke next said, “Huge achievements can be accomplished by men as well as organizations. Here we are seeing both. Single Teacher Schools has created a social revolution in rural and remote villages”.
Then Chief Guest Shri.L.Ganesan delivered the key note address on the topic, “Work is Worship” (Seyyum Thozhile Deivam). He said, “In the Bharathiya tradition, Education doesn’t imply only academics. Our traditional education includes discipline, culture, religious tradition and spiritualism, etc. Revering our work as a divine service to God is our tradition. When we say work, it doesn’t denote only our official work or profession. The word ‘Work’ should be seen in a larger perspective. Work denotes anything which is undertaken, like say, service, profession, help, etc. Any kind of work which is undertaken must be done with involvement, as a service dedicated to God. Such an involved work or service or help is equal to worship and God will certainly descend in such places and bless the community”.
Continuing his speech, he said, “During the olden days, we had three institutions namely Family, Gurukulam and Temple, where children acquired education and experience. That kind of learning with experience helped their growth and progress. But unfortunately now, our children are getting education only in one place that is schools. So, the onus lies on teachers like you and you have to take the entire responsibility for the growth and progress of our children”.
Finally he said, “You all must consider this profession as noble and divine and you must feel at the bottom of your heart that teaching children is worshipping God. My best wishes to you all” and concluded his speech.
Then Educational Consultant and President Award winner Mrs.Rajammal, appreciated the service being rendered by Single Teacher Schools and also motivated the teachers to serve with complete involvement. Dr.Republica Sridhar gave a small introduction to Cancer and its treatment. She also encouraged the teachers not to worry about it and appealed them to have a free consultation.
Then Chief Guest Shri.L.Ganesan presented small writing desks for a few children of Single Teacher Schools. The article will be presented to all the STS centers soon. Mr.M.S.Janardhan, Project Coordinator, compeered the event.
The officials and staff of Single Teacher Schools have meticulously organized the event including arrangement of food for lunch. 225 teachers participated in the camp and were immensely benefitted by it. They also expressed their gratitude wholeheartedly.
